The History of the Olympic

Athletic Club of Piraeus, the most popular in the country. Fosters 16 sports, most of which has a leading role.

Olympic was founded on March 10, 1925, and formed by the merger of the "Piraeus Football Club" and Club Fans of Piraeus. The decision was taken by eminent of Piraeus in the tavern of Fate in the heart of Piraeus. Contractor was the naval officer and aviator Notis...

Kamberos, who wanted the title of the new club to indicate the strength, power sports, fair play, the prevalence and ultimately the Olympic ideal. The industrialist and later Mayor of Piraeus Manouskos Michael added the adjective Olympiakos  words Piraeus Fans 'Association, so the full title of the Piraeus club was and remains Olympiakos Piraeus Fans' Association (Olympiakos).

As a new club emblem was chosen head of a teenager and dafnostefanomenou colors red and white, on a proposal by Yiannis Andrianopoulos, Arsenal fan of reds, from the time he was studying law in London. The first Board of Directors Olympiakos were the: Michael Manouskos (chairman), Notis Canberra (Vice President), Triantafillos Creams (vice), Stavros Maragkoydakis (General Secretary), Thanassis Red (treasurer), Panagiotis Lagouratzis (curator), Costas Kyrimis, Nikos Zacharias, John Louloudakis and E. Kasimatis.

Olympic was founded as a football club and quickly outshone its competitors in the harbor, to become the master of Piraeus, headed by the legendary quintet of Andrianopoulaion, who were the soul of the team in its infancy. Children known family in Piraeus athletic tradition, they made known the name of Olympic in Greece. At first they played four Andrianopoulos, Yiannis, Dinos, Giorgos and Vassilis. Later, Leonidas appeared for a short time he played and Stelios. The quintet's attack with five brothers became a legend.

The golden period of the Olympic football team is the 30s, which started the confrontation with the eternal enemy  Panathinaikos , the 50s with consecutive championships, a time when the team acquired the nickname of the legend  and the great mass supporters, the period Goulandris presidency in early 70s and the current, which started in 1993 by taking over the presidency of the entrepreneur Socrates Kokkalis, who received an Olympic dissolved and made absolute sovereignty within its borders.

The great problem of the Olympic football is its international presence, which is abundant but poor discrimination and often treated with banter from rival fans. No wonder fans still remember the 2-1 friendly win over Santos of the great Pele, but there was the distant 1961. 1999 was a landmark year as the team arrived in eight of the Champions League and by pure luck did not pass the semi-finals stage.
